SOME OF THE FACTS ABOUT INDIA:
GEOGRAPHY:
India covers an area of 3287263 sq km; this is divided in to 29 states and six union territories. all states are sub divided by districts and connected by the roads & the biggest railway network in the world. Most of the big cities are connected by air ways having four international air ports at New Delhi, mumbai, colcutta, Chennai.
CURRENCY:
the official currency of india is rupees but it can be exchanged towards us dallors, euro, and British pounds at hotels or banks. Secondly there are plenty of ATMS , all major credit cards like visa, master are excepted. As well as the travelers chques can be encashed at various banks in big cities. How ever in small cities one has to have sufficient indian rupees. Before leaving india one can exchange left over in to foreign currency one has to produce encashment certificates with passport.
COMMUNICATION:
use 0091 codes followed by the city code with out additional zero and than the phone no. , for mobile phone use only 0091 followed by mobile no. , fax and internet access is easily available in most part of the country.
TIME ZONE:
India is 5.30 hrs ahead of the GMT, 4.30 behind Australian Eastern Standard Time EST, & 10.30 hrs ahead of American standard time.
ELECTICITY:
the electric current is 230 -240 volt a/c, 50 Hz. all electric equipments imported has to be with this standards.
WEIGHTS &MEASURES:
for solid weights india use kilograms instead of pounds. And length wise india use meter or inches. For liquid measurements india use liter. For distances india use kilometer instead of miles or yards
TAXES:
Indian government enforces 10 % of service tax on most of the services.
WEATHER:
India has the geographical diversity so the temperate is not same in all part of the country , at the time of winter season from October to February the temp is between 15 centigrade to 25 centigrade which lowers to 0 to 5 centigrade. In north part of India.
In summer season the temp range from 25 centigrade To 42 centigrade, July to September is the monsoon season in most part of the country. Cotton cloths are the best to carry.
